Our Obsidian Black Night project includes Pure Afghanicus DNA and is a project we have been hyping up for a while now. Because Afghanicus is a naturally dark line of leopard gecko I thought it would be the perfect outcross line to diversify genetics and bring in fresh DNA to produce darker black nights more consistently and with the added benefit of more diverse DNA.

This gecko has 25% Pure Afghanicus DNA and is a 2nd generation cross back into the pure black night lineage we have so she should yield some very dark babies when paired to the right male! :D

All of our Black Nights originally came from the highest quality pure lines imported both from Europe & Asia for diversity.

Over the years we have outcrossed many of our black nights so they will have healthier genetics along with rich dark coloration!

Black Nights are graded on a ranking system. Note that the final darkness of a black night is not known until they reach 40 grams, so we use our experience of how black night genetics age, to grade where the animal is today and where it will most likely stay.

However in many cases black nights will actually gain darkness over time and will rank up as they approach the 40 gram mark.

Our grading system is below:

S Tier - the highest grading, consists of animals that are 95-100% black
A Tier - the second highest grading, animals that are 75-95% black
B Tier - the third highest grading, animals that are 50-75% black
C Tier - the second to last grading, animals that are 25-50% black
D Tier - the last grading, consists of animals that are 0-25% black

Afghanicus is one of the Fabulous 5 subspecies of leopard gecko that can breed together with no problems and only gains: Macularius, Montanus, Fasciolatus, Turcmenicus, & Afghanicus. Out of all of these sub species localities, the afghanicus is by far the most heavily spotted and darkest patterned making it a great candidate to bring more rich darker coloration into any line or project!
